An experimental, improvised piece utilizing looping tape, and delay. 4 ostinati are recorded onto each of the TASCAM portastudio's tracks. They play perpetually because the cassette has been modified into an endless loop. The delay unit (Ibanez DD1000) also adds to the rhythmic texture by repeating these sounds via an effects loop. Its HOLD feature takes whatever sound is in its memory buffer and repeats it infinitely. It's sort of like a primitive sampler and creates very effective rhythmic variations on the source ostinato. Another technique is used on the arpeggiated synth motif. It is recorded onto track 2 and then mixed back with the original sound. As the tape moves at different rates, the arpeggios move in and out of phase with each other, creating new rhythms and melodies out of the original material. https://soundcloud.com/subtersonic/tape-loop-10-18-14

Ageispolis by Aphex Twin from "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" This is a cover song I transcribed to play using only hardware. Stuff used to play it: Alesis Micron, Alesis DM5, Korg microkorg, Kawai Q-80 sequencer, Behringer mixer Here is another video added to Youtube. This was another attempt at creating a setup that works for live performance. I tried to integrate more keyboard playing in this. Soon, I will be getting an old hardware MIDI sequencer that will make the prospect of live performance sound really fun! mp3 is available from SoundCloud |
